7 Best Practices for Balancing Blood Sugar
Many mothers feel like they are constantly playing a balancing act between work, home life, and their own health. Maintaining a healthy blood sugar level is one aspect of wellness that can be easily overlooked in the everyday hustle and bustle. Do you get hangry? Do you have sugar cravings? Here are 7 tips to help you maintain balance and keep your blood sugar in check:
Eat within an hour of waking (choosing a balanced meal that includes protein)
Always keep a snack with you (in your car, purse, desk)
Eat every 3 to 4 hours
Eat before you get hungry
Have a balanced plate of protein, fat, and carbs with each meal
Eat in a relaxed environment. When stressed, our digestive system turns off

When I was just starting to balance my blood sugar, my nutritionist gave me 2 yummy treats to keep on hand during that time.
Coconut butter
Butter honey
I would take a TB or two every 30-60 min during the first 2 weeks of trying to balance my blood sugar. After a couple of weeks, you won’t need these anymore (but they’re also great to always have on hand)!
My favorite coconut butter brand is this one here, and to me, it tastes like white chocolate!!! A fun tip is to heat some up with coconut oil, and it becomes a syrup that can be poured over some green apples…YUM!!
Butter Honey Recipe:
Two 8 oz packages of room temperature grass-fed butter (I love Kerry gold butter)
1/4c raw honey
INSTRUCTIONS:
Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix well until creamy. An easy way to store it is in a glass jar, and then you can grab a TBS or 2 throughout the day. You can also put it in a ziplock bag (if you’re a baker, a piping bag) and make little quarter-size dollops. Or simply spoon small portions onto parchment paper on a baking sheet and freeze. After the butter honey dollops are frozen, I love adding them to a glass jar, leaving them in the freezer, and grabbing 1 or 2 throughout the day.
These combos help satiate you and reduce sugar cravings. Fat is great for balancing your blood sugar. I always suggest pairing something sweet with a healthy fat since that helps prevent a blood sugar spike.
